ONE YEAR BIRTHDAY! BROWNIE GIVEAWAY!!!

One year ago today, I posted my very first MandiCrocker blog.  It was a ramble-y disaster.  I'm not sure much has changed.  HA!  But I wanted to thank those of you that stop in for reading my innermost thoughts & feelings about how much I like to eat.   I'm not sure why you do follow the insanity but you should know it makes me warm inside.  And hungry.

With that said, I feel like celebrating!!!  If I were Oprah, I'd buy you all ovens or something... But I'm not and after many years of therapy, I've come to terms with that...

What I AM going to do, however, is...

Ohh, this is a tough one. I think my most favoritest post was your Halloween one, with tons of pics of all the goodies. My kids loved that one too. My 4 year old insisted we attempt to do something, so we made spider cuppycakes with black licorice legs. Not even close to your creativity, but it was good enough for my 4 and 2 year olds. I would say that my second fave would be the Thanksgiving post. I love thanksgiving, minus this year because I had horrible morning sickness... I just love that you post so many pics. But really, those pics of the brownies are killing me! Brownies and 8 months pregnant go perfectly together, although sharing, does not...

Ok, so I may not comment much and I would have to request gluten free and sugar free brownies (a new challenge to you, perhaps?!?!), but I actually read your blog pretty regularly. It doesn't hurt that you've lived in 2 places I have, so I love hearing references to places I can picture and that your pictures make my mouth water or that you're just hysterically funny...
I LOVED your rail against United Airlines and was blown away by your wedding cake attempts (and successes, in my opinion), but my favorite, for many reasons, is "'My Sweet and Saucy' Shop Review". The entire thing was funny and endearing and affirmed your talent as much as it did others' talents. And I wanted to eat the treats through my computer screen...candy bar cupcake with chocolate ganache?!?! I also love that Melody commented on it.
So there. More people read your blog than you may realize, Mandicakes! Happy Birthday.

Alright so my very favorite is your Sept 19th 2009 blog because it is all about the DNA cookies that you made for ME (also it has some rad awesome castle cake you made for some other chick and I really like castles). Mandicrocker you really did make my day special I only wish you had more confidence about the appearance of the DNA helicies 'cause girl they really did rock the dissertation defense party. Honestly sometimes I look back at this blog just to remind myself that I really did somehow manage to finish my PhD. However, if I was picking simply on what looked the yummiest I'd have to go with sassypants on this one HALLOWEEN ROCKED. Now back to work...

My fave was "Weighting; Baby Steps" in February-ish...It was inspiring and heart warming! I love my Poods a million!!

Well, I could say that I loved the one about me and my blog http://mandicrocker.blogspot.com/2009/12/blogs-to-watch.html, very touching for me, but I think my favorite is your post about you and your SLM http://mandicrocker.blogspot.com/2009/09/next-on-very-special-mandicrocker.html. It told me a little more about that whole story and it was very sweet all the way around.

Anyway, my entry is for my Mommy, since I am trying very hard to not be huge, so that should count for something right?

brigida en la ciudad said...

i think my favorite was your moving to chicago because of how excited you were...im not a huge brownie person, but i'd be a sucker for some marshmallow and peanut butter. PROTEIN hello! also cuz you make some freakin awesome chili and wings.

Hmmm...I'm going to say the Chex Mix one, off the top of my head. I haven't made it yet, but I too have childhood memories of it and I really need to have it again soon!!!

(Oh, and this is your old pal Sarah from Writing Lab!)

ok, my 2 faves are this post - b/c you reached a YEAR, congrats! woot! That's an achievement that's tangible and should root you on!

#2 - I loved your first post living in Chicago b/c you had a lot of 'light' in it- all that optimistic 'new beginnings' stuff and it just really seemed like a new chapter. That light gets brighter with each new post, and I think that's freakin' awesome that you're going forward with your dreams (with a dream guy =P !)

oh my word....American food...and my tastebuds know you've got the follow-through, so yeah, send 'em over! =P

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MANDICROCKER!!!!!!Wahooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Marieeeee :) said...

ok, of course I didn't read the entry instructions. I was honestly just wanting to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! But now that I've read said directions, I will now make my official contest entry. :) I swear, this isn't a copout, but my favorite was your first posting! Why? Because you started your blog, which was a major step in going from "eveyone in LA favorite baker, hope to gosh she brings dessert to my party"... to a baker that everyone in the world could start to enjoy and love! And I just love reading everything you write, so I could not pick another blog because I love them all! So that's my pick. Do with it what you wil. :)

My most fav blog would have to be THIS ONE b/c you're giving away free brownies and as I've been freaking dieting my whole life, it seems, I could use a BROWNIE...or a dozen. Fo SHO! I would not suggest something gross like sugar free, gluton free, vegan disgustingness like that, no way, bring on the sugar, calorie laden goodness of those tiny cakes in a cup. FEED the MANDERS!

MandiCrocker! I’m writing to you in an attempt to win a dozen of your brownies. Yes, the 12 heavenly bricks that I will eat all on my own. I am gushing about the endorphin inducing deliciousness that will be sure to help me reach bathing suit season with added self-loathing yet the overwhelming desire to never be without one of your brownies ever again. But before I submit my vote for Best Blog from the Past Year of MandiCrocker, I must ask a question:

If I vote more than once, will my chances of winning increase? ‘Cause I can type all night, sister.

Please, readers, trust my opinion. If you’ve never eaten a brownie from MandiCakes, my soul weeps for you. I may be raving too much to earn much credibility, but I promise that I’m not lying. Thus, my vote is for the January 27, 2010 blog. Here’s why:

* How can I resist a blog that begins with “FOOD PORN”?
* There are pictures that make me drool.
* The blog is a tease in just the right way. It shows us what MandiCrocker can do, it makes us want what MandiCrocker can do, and it tells us to keep coming back because one day we’ll be able to purchase all that is tempting from MandiCakes.
*MandiCrocker knows what she’s talking about and can prove it.

There’s only one tiny suggestion I’d like to make:
The next raffle should be for coming up with a name for your followers. The Grateful Dead have Deadheads. Barry Manilow has the Fanilows. Star Trek fans have Trekkies. So maybe these aren’t the best examples…Regardless, your admirers need a group name.

Congrats, Mandi!!!

SOOO glad you started this blog. SOOO so glad.

My favorite was the one where you describe how to make platters. ;) Loved it.

Freya said...

Does it have to be the technical name of the post? Because I don't want to look for it, but it was the post with the sweet potato fries, which I then made for me and my man and they were fantabulous. I'd have never known of them had you not told me.

Woo-hoo! Happy Anniversary!

I don't comment a lot on this, but I have read all your blogs since day one and am so proud of you and all you have done. If I had to pick a favorite, I would say the one with Ipod's bleeding face cookies. It made me smile remembering both of you and it brought me back to your apt on Moorpark and game nights. Miss you. Happy Blogday!

I liked the post about the Power Foods because it was not only supercute, but informative as hell. And I liked the picture of the banana cream pie because ... pie.

Darci Monet said...

Okay, since I'm automatically qualified-disqualified for sharing your dna, I'm just stopping by to say that I think your very first blog was my favorite. Cuz you're a nutbag. An ooey, gooey, chocolatey, marshmallowy, peanut-buttery, strawberry-cakey, butterscotchy, minty, buttercreamy nutbag.

Surabufix said...

I like the ones where you mention me!!! LOL Ok or the one where you posted the pic of that amazingly awesome fantastic bday cake you made me last year. Cuz I can just go and sigh over how awesome it was. :)

Seriously, your brownies are so amazing and I hope I win! If not, I am sincerely jealous of whoever does and if they're in LA, can you make it a condition that they have to share?

Surabufix said...

Oh and my other fav, and because I comment on these once in awhile on here or FB, is the last one on the tropical ones. OMG LOOK SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!! If I had money, I'd fly to Chicago just to taste them ;)

<3 you and that's not a bribe, it's cuz I do

Hi Mandi! My favorite TWO are this one, because, wow - nice! Free brownies! And the one with Kelli's bleeding smiley cookies. That made me smile. Wish I still had that psychedelic smiley poster she drew the bloody bullet hole in! Glad to see the tradition continues. Oh, and hey, do you ship to China? If not that's ok, I could have my brownies sent to somebody in the US. But I would be sad and brownieless in China.

My favorite blog post is the one about game day chili. I love game day chili! I eat it every game day, and for me every day is game day. If I win the brownies, the blog post where you announce my victory will become my favorite, and the one about game day chili will fall to the #2 slot, which is still pretty good.

Alise said...

That would be banana cream pie. And I will be in Chicago the week of May 18th to claim my prize. ;-)

Happy happy to you!

Congrats on hitting a year. I read pretty regularly, and one of my favorite posts was the one about the turkey melts and sweet potato fries. Don't know why but something about those pictures just speaks to me--so delicious!

I'm gonna go with "Dear United Airlines...." While there have been many wonderful things on the blog, you burning up UAL for their awful service is still my favorite.

Shockingly, Freya let me know about this contest, so I guess she would like me to win. How kind of her! :D My favorite post was the Halloween one from October 28, 2009, although the Irish Car Bomb one was cute too. I'm a sucker for all things Irish, but those darn ghosts and spiderweb treats just added about five pounds to my waist by looking at them. If I were allowed to celebrate Halloween at my school, you better believe I'd be calling some room parents to try to whip some of those up for the kiddies! (I know my limits, hence why I'm not baking.)

Hey, Mandi! This is Sarah Baker's boyfriend, Bobby, here. I think we met once or twice several years ago. Anyway, Sarah told me if I commented here, we'd have a better chance of getting brownies--I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I'm not fuzzy on my love of brownies, so here I am. I will admit that I am new to your blog, so I guess for my favorite entry I'd have to pick this one in which you're giving away free brownies--pretty cool!

P.S. I made you T-Shirts with your face on them for your birthday. It cost me $400 (Maybe less). For my Birthday you gave me a heart attack with your singing tree.

Hey Mandi! Congrats on your one year! I liked the United rant but I'm going to go with your first blog on April 29, 2009 because without that first step the rest wouldn't be here. If I win, I'd like to donate my prize. I'll buy some dark chocolate brownies. I wish you many more years of success! Thanks, Matt Watts

OK, OK...it took A LOT of catch-up reading since we're just newly friends here, but I decided on my favorite. It has to be your "New Year's Revolutions" entry for the following reasons:
1) though it signified a sad-to-be-leaving awesome people in your life, it brought you to me and my fair city, and
2) it alerted me to the fact that you are requesting assistance in making the perfect chocolate chip cookie. I'm not gonna even TRY to be humble here: mine are the best IN THE UNIVERSE (::echo:: in the universe...). That was God talking. Seriously, they're good. Let's get together for a baking pow-wow pronto. 'cause you know what? I've already kind of hoped and dreamed to have such an event with you.

Hugs!!!!

Christine (a.k.a. the lost member of Expose...you know who I'm talkin' 'bout!)
